COMMISSION A NEW PAINTING
In Acrylic, Oil or Watercolour
I enjoy collaborating with clients to develop ideas into new paintings that fit their homes and their personality. If you have an idea, or like one of my paintings that is already sold, or simply have an empty wall that needs colour and life, email me at hello@kanchanmehendale.com or complete the form below to commission a new painting. I work with acrylics, oils and watercolours. I take commissioned painting orders for homes as well as offices.
Do read further to understand my commissioned art process. I will discuss each detail with you, share images, make digital compositions and keep you informed at every stage! Part of the joy of the commissioned artworks is getting to know you a little bit!
Step I – Contact me!
You can email me at hello@kanchanmehendale.com or complete the form above. If you know the rough size you would like and the medium (acrylic, oil or watercolour), please let me know.
It is absolutely okay if you are unsure of the size and the medium, I can guide you with this.
Size –
• You can begin by measuring the wall space where you intend to hang the artwork and decide the size accordingly.
• In addition, if the artwork will be hung behind a sofa or a bed, a rectangular painting (landscape orientation), or a set of 2-3 square or rectangular (portrait orientation) paintings will work best.
• If you want to add an artwork over a chest of drawers or cabinet, a square painting or a set of rectangular (portrait orientation) paintings looks great.
• Large wall spaces need large square or rectangular (portrait orientation) paintings.
• Gallery walls, done with a set of paintings, in similar theme / style / colours, in different sizes add a lot of personality to a home / office space. You can let me know if you like this and we can discuss the sizes.
If you are still unsure about the perfect size for your space, I am happy to guide you further. Email me!
Medium –
• If you need the artwork quickly, choose an acrylic or watercolour painting. Oil paints take longer to dry!
• If you prefer paintings on canvas, choose an acrylic or oil painting.
• For framed paintings with glass / acrylic covers, watercolour paintings are perfect.
• Impasto style / textured artworks – definitely need acrylic or oils.
Still not sure – email me for a discussion.
Step II – Style and images
Once I receive your initial request for a commissioned painting, we will discuss the style of art that you like and adds to your decor. We will exchange reference images and collaborate to decide on the subject, style, medium, colours and size. You can share images for colours you prefer, your home decor, and other paintings you have at home that you would like to match. Where can you get inspirations – browse my artworks for a good start, or Pinterest!
If there are particular paintings / style of mine you favour, or a photograph you would like me to work from, that will definitely help. The more insight, the better for me to guide you to add a painting that you will absolutely love to see in your home / office space everyday!
Step III – Quotation
Based on the initial discussions, I will give you a quotation for the painting as well as time frames for completion. When you accept the quotation and time lines, I will share the digital composition of the painting for your final approval.
For all commissioned paintings, I take a 50% advance payment and balance is payable on completion.
Step V – Painting, varnishing, framing and delivery
Depending on the size and subject, paintings can take 3 working days to 4-6 weeks to complete. I will share progress images with you as I work on the painting. An oil painting will need at least a month to dry after completion.
Varnishing –
• Watercolour paintings are not varnished
• Acrylic painting – will be varnished using 2 coats. The painting usually dries in a day. For thick impasto style artwork, it can take about 3-4 days to dry. Once the painting is dry, the varnishing process will take 2 working days.
• Oil painting – these can be varnished after 6 months of completion as the oil paints take a long time to dry. Some can take as long as a year. You can take delivery of the painting after a month from completion and bring the painting back to me after 6 months to a year for varnishing.
Framing –
• Within Singapore –
• Acrylic / oil paintings on canvas are available ready to hang, in a stretched condition.
• Watercolour paintings – Unframed condition
Based on your home decor, I am happy to guide you with framer and framing options within Singapore. If you would like me to arrange for the framing, it will be done at an additional cost.
• Outside Singapore –
• All paintings will be shipped in a rolled condition.
Shipping –
For international shipping, the paintings will be shipped within 5 working days of completion. They will be shipped in a rolled condition in dent-resistant hard surface mailing tubes. This is to minimise the shipping costs charged to the client and ensure that the painting is not damaged in transit.
