If one takes a walk down Joo Chiat in Singapore, one would fall in love with the colourful Peranakan architecture of the shophouses. Many of them are painted in pastel hues and adorned with ornamental plasterworks and glazed ceramic tiles. This painting is my tribute to the iconic and historical Peranakan shophouses. Emerald Hills Shophouses I
A bit of history of Emerald Hill - this was the site of a former nutmeg orchard established in 1837. The area was acquired in 1900 by businessmen who then sold smaller parcels of land. The new owners built the terrace houses and shophouses. One of the shophouses, the No 5 bar and restaurant seen in this painting, is a popular destination even today! Of course a stroll down this street is always memorable.

Trevi Fountain Rome
This painting is inspired by my visit to Rome. The Trevie Fountain is one of the most famous fountains in the world; an unmissable sight when visiting Rome. Sitting atop an ancient aqueduct that dates back to 19 BC, the Trevi Fountain is fed by the clear water of Acqua Vergine. Found at the junction of three streets, translating to ‘tre vie’, this is simply how the Trevi Fountain got its famous name.
