Emerald Hills Shophouses I

A bit of history of Emerald Hill – this was the site of a former nutmeg orchard established in 1837. The area was acquired in 1900 by businessmen who then sold smaller parcels of land. The new owners built the terrace houses and shophouses. One of the shophouses, the No 5 bar and restaurant seen in this painting, is a popular destination even today! Of course a stroll down this street is always memorable.
