Thrilled to present this painting of the Singapore River and the Fullerton Hotel, which are closely intertwined in history and geography.
I love to dive into a bit of history with every artwork that I paint; read on if you would like to know more..
The Singapore River played a vital role in the development of Singapore as a trading port. The Fullerton Hotel is situated at the mouth of the Singapore River, where it meets Marina Bay.
Originally built in 1928 as the Fullerton Building, it served as the city’s main post office and government office. During World War II, it was used as a hospital by the Japanese army. After the war, it was returned to the Singaporean government and subsequently was converted into a hotel in 1997. The Fullerton Hotel is known for its stunning architecture that combines classical and contemporary styles and offers stunning views of the city skyline and the Marina Bay waterfront.
In 2015, the hotel was gazetted as a National Monument by the Singaporean government, recognizing its historical and cultural significance.
The Singapore River has been transformed into a popular tourist destination, with boat tours, restaurants, and bars lining its banks. The Fullerton Hotel is a prominent landmark along the river, and its architecture and history are such an important part of the river’s heritage.
