if one takes a walk down Joo Chiat in Singapore, one would fall in love with the colourful Peranakan architecture of the shophouses. Many of them are painted in pastel hues and adorned with ornamental plasterworks and glazed ceramic tiles. This painting is my tribute to the iconic and historical Peranakan shophouses.
A trip to the historic and vibrant Emerald Hill Road in Singapore, 50 reference images taken during that trip, and endless hours of labour, helped create this detailed painting of some of the iconic shophouses on this street. Enjoy a bit of the Peranakan culture and history through this painting.
