China Town – Upper Cross Street Shophouses

This artwork captures the vibrant charm of Upper Cross Street in Chinatown, Singapore, where beautifully preserved shophouses stand as a reminder of the city’s rich cultural heritage. Painted in watercolours, the piece highlights the ornate facades, pastel tones, and timeless details that make these buildings such iconic landmarks. While predominantly shaped by Chinese immigrants, the area was also home to other communities. Shophouses here doubled as homes, businesses, and clan associations. Today, these heritage buildings are conserved, standing proudly as symbols of resilience, culture, and community amidst modern skyscrapers. Because of its architectural, historical, and social importance, Chinatown remains a neighbourhood full of life and living heritage. This painting is both an artwork and a tribute to Singapore’s past – a reminder of the beauty and strength found in its cultural roots. Bring a touch of Singapore’s history and charm into your space!

Mumbai – A tribute in Watercolour

Mumbai: A Tribute in Watercolour. Bathed in the soft golden hues of dawn, this watercolour captures the soulful rhythm of Mumbai as it awakens. The iconic Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, resplendent in its timeless grandeur, stands as a silent sentinel by the sea — a symbol of resilience, elegance, and history. Behind it, the city unfurls in layers of warmth and energy, where heritage architecture meets the shimmering silhouettes of modern skyscrapers, blending past and present in perfect harmony. The lavender mist of early morning merges into a burst of vibrant skies, capturing that fleeting, magical moment before the bustle begins. A poetic pause in an otherwise relentless metropolis. This painting is a love letter to the city of my birth— a city that will always have a piece of my heart!

One of the most beautiful and well-preserved terrace houses in Jalan Besar, Singapore, are  along Petain Road. Made up of 18 double-storey pre-war terrace houses, they were built in the early 1930s. They are the classic examples of Chinese Baroque-style shophouses in Singapore, designed with symmetrical lines, delicate ornaments and ceramic tiles on both the floors and walls.

This artwork beautifully encapsulates the historic architecture and vibrant character of one of Singapore’s iconic streets. The painting showcases the distinctive features of the terrace house, with its colourful facade, ornate details, and traditional tiled roof. It brings a sense of warmth and nostalgia, inviting viewers to imagine the bustling life that once filled these streets. If you ever find yourself in the area, take a moment to appreciate the beauty of the terrace houses and perhaps discover the stories they hold!

Bring home this painting and add vibrant Singapore history to your space! This painting / prints will also make great Singapore themed gifts.
